Why
Strategic Standards Management
is vital to your company

The paper Standards Management and Texas Instruments was originally written for the December, 1997 issue of the ASTM's Standardization News. Following its publication in late 1997, it was republished in the May, 1998 ISO Bulletin and from there republished in the national body newsletters of at least four other countries.

Although it specifically addresses how Texas Instruments strategically managed its participation in the international standards industry from 1991-1998, the concepts and ideas presented are generally applicable to most industries, especially those in the Information Technology sector.

Since the article was written, Texas Instruments has reorganized its corporate offices and, regrettably, has decided to discontinue addressing standards participation from a strategic corporate viewpoint.  The author strongly disagrees with this policy and has left the company.
