Clyde R. Camp received his B.S.E.E. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1969, and his Master’s Degree in computer science from Southern Methodist University in 1975. He may be reached via email at c.camp@ieee.org.

During the first half of his 30-year career at Texas Instruments his responsibilities included designing H/W and S/W components of real-time embedded computer systems within TI’s Military Products Division; managing TI’s Industrial Systems Division’s System Engineering Department and working with AI Languages and Real Time Systems development  in the Computer Science Center’s Computer Systems Laboratory in Dallas.

Overlapping this, for the last 20 years, he was heavily involved in the national and international standards industry, first managing TI’s Corporate Standards Office as its first Director of Standards, then working for the Uniform Code Council as their Director of Standards Development and then InterDigital Communications Corporation as their Director of Information Technology Standards.  He has also taught graduate classes in Visual Basic, Java, C++ and HTML/Web Design at the University of Texas in Dallas and consulted with national and international standards developing organizations and local industry on Strategic Standards Management.

After leaving Interdigital, he worked as an independent contractor until 2009 for the IEEE Standards Office as the System Architect and Program Manager for the IEEE’s myBallot and myProject programs as well as IMAT, its working group attendance tracking application. All three programs are mainstay components of the IEEE’s automated standards development initiative.

Clyde is a Life Member of the IEEE and has held numerous standards-related management positions on various ISO Technical Advisory Groups for the US as well as positions in the Computer Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the National Committee on Information Technology Standards. Until 2005 he was a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.

Clyde is a certified Texas Master Naturalist and leads both Nature Hikes and Astronomy/Night hikes at several of the nature centers around Dallas, Texas. At home, Clyde and his family enjoy science fiction, astronomy, woodworking, macaws, the desert Southwest and hacking (in the original good sense).
